The editorial board members are guardians of quality by helping the editorial board shape the vision for the journal, ensuring that peer review is conducted honestly and supporting that published research is credible and meets the requirements of the scientific community.

  1. Editorial Board Diversity

It’s important to have diversity among our Editorial Board because it helps to make sure that our manuscripts are evaluated from a variety of geographical locations, disciplines, institutions and demographic groups, thus bringing a wider range of perspectives to the evaluation of manuscripts and improving editorial decision-making.

GlobalCitation is dedicated to keeping our Editorial Board diverse across the globe through each of our journals. Our Editors work to ensure that there is balance in their editorial board with respect to expertise, regional representation and experience, in keeping with the COPE recommendations for Inclusive and Responsible Editorial Governance.

  1. Recruitment of Editorial Board Members

Typically, editorial board members are identified and nominees put forward by Editors in Chief, Associate Editors and other members of the Board. All candidates either nominated/expressed interest are all put through the same structured evaluation process.

The appointment of editorial board members is based on the following criteria.

  • Academic Experience/Publications
  • Alignment with the Journal
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethical publishing
  • Willingness to actively contribute

Candidates who meet both the above qualifications and engagement expectations will be invited to join the Board.

III. Editorial Board Eligibility Criteria

It is anticipated that future membership in an editorial board will entail:

  • Advanced or high-level subject area expertise that relates directly to the scope of the journal;
  • A doctoral or equivalent research qualifications;
  • An affiliation with well-established academic and/or research/-based institutions;
  • Evidence of publishing extensive articles which have been cited; and
  • A clear commitment to ethical standards in research and the integrity of scholarship.

Editor guidelines

The editors of the journal are responsible for ensuring that the manuscript submissions, monetary collections and other journal-related transactions are carried out correctly. They also evaluate manuscripts submitted to them to ensure they conform to the standards of the editorial committee of the journal.

     Editorial Roles and Responsibilities

  1. a) Editor-in-Chief

The chief editor is the highest authority on editorial matters for the journal and provides a framework for strategic leadership for the journal. In conjunction with the associate editors, section editors, and editorial office, the chief editor ensures fairness, consistency, and quality in the editorial process.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Define the editorial vision and strategy for the journal.
  • Make the final decision on publication after the peer review process.
  • Maintain editorial and ethical standards.
  • Appoint members of the editorial board and make recommendations for their appointment.
  • Oversee the peer review process with the assistance of the editorial office.
  • Recommend and approve special and/or thematic issues.
  • Promote the journal in the academic community.
  • Address ethical issues and/or publication misconduct.
  • Prepare editorials and attend progress meetings.

Term: 2 years, renewable at the end of 2 years by mutual agreement.

  1. b) Associate Editors

The associate editor will assist the chief editor in the evaluation of submitted manuscripts and the peer review process.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate the quality and relevancy of the submitted manuscript.
  • Select and manage the peer reviewers for each submitted manuscript.
  • Make editorial recommendations based on reviewer feedback.
  • Ensure that the ethical and reporting standards are met.
  • Participate in discussions regarding editorial policy and process.

Term: 2 years, renewable at the end of 2 years by mutual agreement.

  1. c) Regional Editors

The Journal’s Regional Editors are responsible for managing outreach to specific geographic regions around the world and will help support worldwide engagement for the Journal.

Regional Editor responsibilities include:

  • Manage the curation of submitted manuscripts from designated regions or countries;
  • Promote the Journal to regional Academic Communities;
  • Assist in recruiting geographically diverse authors/contributors to the Journal;
  • Assist in recruiting geographically diverse Editorial Board members to support the Journal;
  • Propose and/or assist with one thematic issue over the course of two years.

Term: Two (2) Years, and can be renewed through mutual agreement.

  1. d) Section Editors

Section Editors will manage defined thematic sections or disciplinary sections of the Journal.

Section Editors’ Responsibilities Include:

  • Manage section-specific content
  • Identify emerging research and trends;
  • Solicit and/or contribute one thematic issue during a two-year term;
  • Promote section visibility and submissions;
  • Recruit relevant Editorial Board members into their section.

Term: Two (2) Years and can be renewed through mutual agreement

Editoral Workflow

  1. Editorial Board Members

Members of the Editorial Board are actively involved in the mission of the Journal and thus serve as academic supporters.

Responsibilities of Editorial Board Members include but are not limited to:

  • Soliciting or providing at least one manuscript per year
  • Reviewing 2 to 3 manuscripts in their area of expertise
  • Recommending appropriate peer reviewers
  • Promoting the journal to the academic community

Term: 2 Years; may be renewed by a mutual agreement.

  1. Guest Editors

Guest Editors are appointed to oversee the development of thematic or special issues typically focusing on emerging areas of research.

Responsibilities of Guest Editors include but are not limited to:

  • Developing proposals for the development of thematic issues (i.e., aims, scope, keywords)
  • Asking international contributors to submit manuscripts
  • Writing editorial for the thematic issue
  • Promoting the topical theme of the thematic issue
  • Contributing a manuscript to the thematic issue (optional)

The Editorial Office will coordinate all peer review for thematic issues but the Editor-in-Chief will make the final decisions concerning the thematic issue.

Term: Up to 3 Years so long as a specific issue is developed.

VII. Early Career Researchers Board

GlobalCitation will assist in the educational growth of individuals through the Early Career Researchers Board.

Eligibility includes:

  • Must be within 5 years of obtaining their PhD
  • Must have at least 5 peer-reviewed publications.

Responsibilities of Early Career Researchers on the Early Career Researchers Board include but are not limited to:

  • Soliciting or providing manuscripts
  • Assisting in co-reviewing manuscripts
  • Promoting journal initiatives/outreach

VIII. Conflict of Interest

Editors have to be unbiased and disclose any and all possible conflicts that arise. Conflict can exist when an editor has a personal relationship, professional relationship, a relationship with an institution, or a financial relationship with an author or an author’s organization.

All conflict-of-interest cases are treated in accordance with COPE procedures.

  1. Confidentiality

Editors must keep all manuscripts, reviewer identities and discussions confidential and cannot reveal any information from manuscripts or use any manuscript related information to further their own personal research.

  1. Ethical Oversight and Misconduct

It is the responsibility of editors to report:

  1. Ethical violations
  2. Fabricated or falsified data
  3. Manipulation of citations
  4. Plagiarism or duplicate publication

All suspected violations will be handled in accordance with COPE and internal ethical policies.

  1. Editorial Board Registration

Individuals who would like to join the GlobalCitation Editorial Board can obtain an Editorial Board Registration Form by selecting a journal and a corresponding editorial position.

All registration forms will be reviewed by the Editor-In-Chief and the Editorial Office. Appointments will ultimately depend on the needs of the journal, qualifications of the applicant and the discretion of the Editor-in-chief.
